Handspring is famous by its PDA and their GSM-module (VisorPhone). Now the company produced two new models - Treo 180 and Treo 180g. They are not usual PDA but communicators, they have an integrated GSM-modul and a fixed antenna. May be it sounds a little bit strange but firstly these communicators were launched on the European market (GSM 900/1800, GSM 900/1900), and only now CDMA-versions for American market are working out. Main difference of Treo 180 and Treo 180g is a keypad. The first model has a biult-in QWERTY keypad, the second one has only an on-screen keypad. Dimensions are usual for such devices: 11õ6.9õ1.8 cm, weight is 153 g. PDA is based on the processor Motorola Dragonball VX 33 NHz, has 16 Mb of memory. An OS - Palm OS 3.5.2H4 is loaded in ROM, what isn't allowed to renew it in the fututre. This device has a standard monochrome display with the resolution of 160õ160 pixels. According to the manufacturers, a built-in lithium-ion battery enables to work up to 60 hours in the standby mode and up to 2.5 hours in the talk mode. If to turn off a GSM-modul, an autonomy will be similar to usual PDAs. Communicators have a vibrating alert, which is rather weak. They also equipped with IR-port, USB-cable to synchronize with PC. It's interesting that SpringBoard is absent. Treo 180 (both models) are already slod in USA, the price is about 550 USD and about 400 USD with a service contract. There is a discount for owners of VisorPhone. It is expected that in the beginning of 2002 a new model Treo 270 with a colour screen and price about 600 USD will be launched. |
